Mobile
number and Aadhaar linking can be done at home from January 1, 2018 using a
voice-guided system with a one-time password (OTP).
Mobile
users were requested to link phone numbers with Aadhaar for security concerns;
a large number of persons did this process with some difficulties by visiting
the customer centers of mobile companies.
The
last date for linking Aadhaar and mobile number is February 06, 2018, failing
which their mobile number may be disconnected.
Mobile
users feel that An OTP-based system is the most convenient process to get their
numbers linked with Aadhaar, comparing to the existing system where biometric
machines have not functioned properly at outlets of mobile companies sometimes,
or centers were located at a distance.
OTP
system process chart
- Mobile user needs to call the Interactive Voice
Response System (IVRS) from their mobile number,
- Users can opt Regional languages/English.
- Users will then need to give the consent for
verification with the Aadhaar number, following which he/she receives an
OTP used to complete the process.
- Once the OTP of the person so keyed in is
verified to be correct, the number is verified within a certain period.
Announcing
the commencement of the OTP-based process, began from November 15, 2017, and
then from December 01, 2017. Finally the permission was granted on December 01,
2017 by UIDAI.
